Wick to London

Let’s tell folks about the train station at Wick was closed but needed to catch a train. The bike storage on the train. The subsequent ride from Scotland to England with our bikes.

Wick

Took a relaxing day in Wick to recharge, do laundry, work on bikes, and get ready for next week’s vacation.

Rode out to The Alexander Bain Wetherspoon for a hearty breakfast, then rode to Tesco to pick up supplies for today and tomorrow morning. While there we spoke with some wonderful people. One elderly lady told us about her red shopper bike, and how much she loved it. She would ride it 15 miles to one place and then ride it back. Her husband was worried about her and didn’t approve. Every time she rode she would get a flat. And she would pump that one up and later the other tire would be flat. It was exhausting. She found out her husband had been letting the air out of the tires. Then she told us about a three wheeled bike she and her older brother had when she was a bairn. She would ride on the back while her brother drove. When he was too big to drive it, she was still too little to ride, so her dad mounted/bolted blocks of wood to the pedals so she could reach the pedals. She said she never wanted to get off of the bike.

Of all sports, cycling is the one that requires the most perfect match of man and machine. The more perfect there match, the more perfect the result. - Paul Cornish
