Bodmin to Lewdown

This morning we decided to take the A-30 as the grade was much nicer than any of the other paths we could take. While it was not as tranquil and the side of the road did have quite a few dead hedgehogs, rabbits and birds we did make better time and avoided some nasty hills.

We left the A-30 and entered the village of Alternu and went into their beautiful church to see the carved bench ends. They were stunning each more
interesting than the last. We also stopped in Petroc to see their church as it is one of the largest Parrish churches. Service was being held so we only glimpsed the inside but found the well outside of the church to be fascinating

Then it was back onto the A-30 to Lauceston where we entered through the gate of the city and explored their stunning carved church. The next stop was Devon where they were having a horse competition and stunning vista plus lots of sheep and cows.

We spent the night in a Lewdown farmhouse where we took them up on the offer to do our laundry and store our bikes in their barn.

Bodmin

Sandra and Dave were lovely hosts. (I hope they get to watch “About Time”) We headed out to the center of town, stopping at a Spar to grab some muffins and juice to fuel up. It’s a very different place, being built on tight little hills, the layout is different than most places. The architecture and layout reflects that very, very long history of Bodmin. St Petroc’s is stunning, with a style that’s similar to the parishes we’ve seen, yet on a grander scale and more additions. A picturesque and awe inspiring edifice, green l graveyard wraps
