Clevedon to Monmouth

After a large buffet breakfast we were back to fields of cows and sheep as we headed to Wales. We traveled over several suspension bridges and did a slow climb up and out of Devon to enter Wales. We traveled through forest, fields and lovely villages. At one point we were out of water so stopped at the town square where there was a water fountain. Unfortunately, it was out of order but a lovely woman took our bottles into her house and filled them for us. It is charming to see the road signs in Welsh. We stoped in Chepstow to see a castle and church and grabbed lunch in Tesco. Then headed for Tinturn Abbey, which was quite a climb but stunningly beautiful. Tinturn Abbey is beautiful where the sky becomes the stained glass. It was so open and serene with gorgeous stone work. The abbey had a working sewer system, hospital, gardens, kitchen, and book room. Ian met a very nice man from Belgium, Joseph, who we then saw again in Monmouth. The ride to Monmouth we climbed back out of the valley through beautiful forest dotted with fields of sheep, wide rolling rivers and lovely villages. Monmouth is where Henry the V was born and they are quite proud of this fact. We stayed at another Wetherspoons where they had a small room under the building they let us store our bikes in.

Thanks Komoot

Lots of back paths, thanks Komoot. Severn Bridge Wales Watching Entered Wales. Wye Valley, reminded me of Tennessee Tintern Abby Joseph from Beligium (and his 6 other friends. They travel together. Invited them to our place). We met Joseph outside of Tintern Abbey as we both waited for others to do through it (I watched the bikes and Joseph wanted to take a break). We saw them again in Monmouth. Two ladies and teenage son on hill climb, refilled our water bottles. Monmouth Wetherspoons. Gentle rolling hills, but still long climbs. Having a big day with luggage yesterday made these lower grade (maxing around 8-9) tougher than they should have been. Nice lunch break in Chepstow. Road down and past the Chepstow castle. Big climb out.
