Drumnadrochit to Tain

Had a lovely breakfast of smoked salmon eggs Benedict and the arrived at a hill that was so steep we had to push the bikes up in a zig zag fashion. It took a hour of pushing the bikes up this hill until we arrived at the top. The ride down was glorious through fields of heather and green farm land. We stopped in Beauly to see the priory which was lovely and worth the stop. There were very interesting tombstones and a marvelous old tree out from of the priory.

We stopped at a Tesco to grab lunch and rode on to find a nice place to eat. Ian always insists there will be nice bench up ahead and sure enough in a little village there was a war monument and the perfect bench to sit and eat lunch. We traveled through more rolling hills, farmland and forest with beautiful view and with glimpses of the sea in the distance. We dropped down into the adorable town of Tain. We saw a huge flock of wild gees flying over a field landing to join hunters of other geese. It was very noisy and interesting to watch. The other bird encounter we had today was one chicken and several ducks milling around the middle of the road which we had to wait for several minutes for them to decide to let us pass. The traffic on the roads was very light and we had a very steep hills but the ride was very nice.

Huge Climb Out of Drum

Huge climb out of Drum. Steepest hill we’ve ever done. Had to walk, and at times zigzag across the road while pushing as it was too steep to push straight up. Nice guy while walking up. Had a short chat. He said he wished we had more time, I agreed but we both had work to do. On top, another glorious day, trees, farmland, livestock. Grace is doing so well. Sometimes she takes off while I’m taking a picture and she is out of sight.

One of the best bike routes in the country, coming down into Beauly. Miles of sweet downhill and countryside. It was a blast. On our touring bikes we had to brake to keep from getting out of control, on a road bike it would be glorious.

Ducks, chicken, and baby ducks.

Great weather.

Geese landing.

Cute town of Tain. Another fun chat with four people family, around our age parents and their kid+spouse.

Tesco ramen, was interesting.

B&B fantastic room, view out on water was picturirsque. Tidal waters, tide was out, mud flats as far as you can see.

Shandwick house was very nice room.

Breakfast, okay.

Bikes in shed, a plus
