Fort William to Loch Ness, Drumnadrochit

After a quick breakfast from Sainsbury we climbed up to a road that offered spectacular views of the mountains and loch. We met two bikers and chatted about the best route to take and then joined the Great Glen Way which is a delightful rail trail. We rode down forest paths lined by moss covered rocks and ferns. Our ride today took us past beautiful lochs, a bit of Loch Ness and Castle  Urquart. We did find ourselves off of the Great Glen Way and onto the main road for part of today. This was not fun as there was a lot of traffic and most of it tour busses. When there was a turn out available we would pull over and let them pass but most of the time they just rode past us incredibly close. We had several close calls with busses today and were very happy when we were able to leave the main road and arrived at a very pleasant inn. We found a laundromat a woman had set up behind her inn in a trailer and after a few false starts and much help we were able to get our laundry washed and dried. We came back to the inn and had a delicious dinner next to a roaring fire.

Great Glen Way

The Great Glen way. Hard to find, kept getting tossed out on the A82. Not a good road to be on. Was on it for like 10 miles or more. Then another 15. But the part of the cycle path we were on was enjoyable. Moss, ferns, lichen, everywhere. Tons of water, alongside lochs, nice.

B8009? Was excellent. Lot of climbing, but great views.

Another grandparents on electric bikes zipping along.

Urqhat castle.

Down into Drum

Loch Ness Inn, really nice room, great food, highly reccomend. Locked bikes up outside, could be seen from room.

Launderette about half mile away didn’t dry. Looks great, but alas. Spent way too long here. £6 for wash, £3 for dry.

Road back to Inn in the dark, but streetlights the whole way.
