Oake to Wells to Clevedon

Oh happy day, we are in Somerset. The hills are beginning to flatten!

Ian had another flat tire when we woke the morning. I have new ?? tires and have not had a flat on this trip while Ian has had two using  ?? tires. Today we need to find a bike shop and purchase new tires and tubes.

We rode along another tow path past many locks through lovely green trails. At one point the trail had markers for planets to indicate how far the planets were from each other. Each mile marker had facts about the planet it represented. More sheep and cows and then we had to take a detour that led us up and over a train track. We had to carry the bikes up the very steep stair and then back down the other side.

Ian has another slow leak in his rear tire, we really needed to find a bike shop. It began spitting rain but not enough for us to put on full rain gear. Then the sky cleared as we entered Wells. Lovely Wells with a bike shop where they put new tires on Ian’s bike and sold us some more tubes. While Ian was in the bike shop I walked across the street to the bakery and discovered Eccles cakes. They are a little pastry with blackcurrants and spices. They are delicious. We wanted to see the Wells cathedral so we rode into town and saw a rather large church. I went inside and saw beautiful tile work and a beautifully painted ceiling. We thought this was the cathedral and so then rode out of town to Cheddar. Later we learned we had visited the parish church and not the cathedral so we much go back to Wells someday.

We climbed through Cheddar but did not have any cheese and then rode on a rail trail through a very long dark tunnel. It was dusk as we arrive in Clevedon to our great old hotel on the sea. Our room was at the top of the building with a view of the sea. The clerk stored our bikes in the left luggage closet and we enjoyed listening to the sea as we fell asleep.
